Azalea cuttings aftercare

Hey all just had a quick question on some azalea cuttings I’ve been growing after trimming my azalea down in early April. Two of them seem to be growing okay indoors with indirect light and a plastic bag over them to make a dome. They are all potted in 100% kanuma soil and I give them daily listings to ensure the humidity stays up in the dome. The third one seems to have some of older leaves turning yellow and the new leaves staying green I will post pics. Also wondering how long I should keep them indoors before letting them get a few hours outside to adjust to the climate

Depending where you are located, you can already just move them outside without any humidity dome but in SHADE. Water as usual.

Seems like they are doing ok…. But it looks like the flower buds are still on?

This retards growth of the cuttings. In this case it’s possible to hold the bottom of the cutting and gently twist off the flower buds. Done without damage this will release energy to allow the branchlets to form.

Okay will do thanks just recently did that with my other azalea will post some pics on the other thread. I should have picked the flower buds before I made the cuts now I know for next time. Going to throw these little guys on a shelf outside today and pick the flower buds then just let them hangout and hope they grow some good roots.

Thanks, Poolie

You are most welcome.

JFI We do not normally use kanuma for a cutting medium, favoring perlite and peat heat mat and thermostat in a dome as the cuttings seem to grow better in the P&P for the first three years.

If kanuma is deployed usually use a smaller size. So interested in your effort as of they will grow well it will save the need to root wash the young azaleas later on,

Cheers
