Here is the newest tree to my garden, a gingko shown with my son Broderick who turned 1 a few weeks ago. The Gingko is a monster with a picturesque base. It is my second gingko bonsai and I love the species. I have a few fronts to choose from, been rubbing a few buds off that are too low and just been watering a lot in the >90 degree temps we have had.20200704_144635.jpg

I bought this from a pre-bonsai vendor in california that I found on ebay several years ago https://www.ebay.com/usr/3m.bonsai?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 I have bought two other bulky pre-bonsai from him over the years and they are great.

I try to check in and see what he has seasonally as his inventory changes and good deals can certainly be found, he had one other gingko similar to mine maybe a bit wider and a bit taller for just 100 dollars more but I preferred the look of my trunk.

The material is unique and well priced for the value usually The person I have talked to is named Mau, very helpful

Hi,
This tree looks really nice in a weird way.
My thinking/analysis would be that this is probably 10-12 cuttings grown and then bound together to fuse etc after a few years in the ground.
Unsure if I am on the right track here, or if you don’t really mind. Wow, $100 is a great price too

Good seller, my olive came from him. But nice Ginkgo for sure. Fun project. I actually contemplated a ginkgo from that seller. But, tend to prefer each species to stand alone on the bench. I rarely have a duplicate species. With that in mind...I passed. Glad I can watch you develop yours. Cool bones to a good ginkgo for sure.

heres some newer pics, already more than enough possibilities and some long branches developing and hardening off, this thing eats fertilizer and chugs h20

Trimmed some lower leaves and leaf sets. Trimmed many of the largest and most horizontal leaves.

This spring I trimmed it down to 2 nodes for most branches and they responded perfectly with back budding and even ramification.

Some of the longer growth on top is beginning to resemble how i have seen Ginkgo in the ground.

Ive found some nice techniques that work well for foliage developement including simply just raking out the new shoots so they are as radial as possible and have the direction I want.

My son just turned two, tree was an early word that he absorbed from my dilligence to my trees.

Wow that is one massive ginkgo trunk. now I have got trunk envy.
Love ginkgos, I just made a ginkgo forest and video'd it, but all nine trunks together in the forest are still not close that whopper!

Nice pic of your son, they grow much faster than bonsai sadly ;)

Heres my 3 year old with this tree.

"tree" was one of his first words, I let him touch foliage and do some small interactions with my trees, e is quite interested and likes to mimic my bonsai chores.
