UPDATE...
t's been 4 years since I embarked on this mission. Most are just growing out while keeping lower future tree branches in check.

So i decided to mess with this one, last spring I cut the water bottle back by half where I was making negari roots. Then today I finished removing the rest of the bottle, raked out the surface soil some, chopped the top and wired the new leader and other top branch.
For some reason the youtube upload is garbage. But the pics are good to go. I'm also. Considering re wrapping the roots in hopes they'll bulk up some.

Looking good! I did a similar thing a few years ago, some I left in pots and wired into twisty shapes, some I grafted dwarf JWP to, some I stuck in the ground with a wire tuniquet which had variable results as I didn’t limit the strongest roots.

5 years later. The ones pond.baskets proved to thicken up the most, and obviously gave me superior roots compared the the regular pots. I'll be going thru and posting more tomorrow. Many of the ones in regular nursery cans went into colanders this spring, should be great in another few years. More updates coming soon
