Best Species of Carpinus?

I have few hornbeams… Korean ones are ramifying very well, easy to graft (as majority of deciduous), can stand almost any amount of sun and water.. downside are the wounds that heal quite slowly and super coarse growth after chops. Also pretty tough to reliably backbud on older branches… I used one as the new leader last year and nothing popped… will end up grafting something there. Here is the one… wired top to bottom this year so kind of looking funny.

I wonder, Carpinus betulus at last is used as hedging material and normally easily backbuds from old wood. At least here in middle Europe. That said, they may not always pop where you like it though. 😆
