Sorry if this is already out there on the forum but I did not find it. I just got started with Bonsai about a year ago and want to purchase a set of stainless Kaneshin tools and other accessories. What is the most reputable website to purchase them? I found the website below that ships directly from Japan and seems to have good prices and wondered if anyone had used them or if their is a better option.

I like to support BonsaiTonight.com for Kaneshin Tools.

Jonas the owner is an all around top notch guy who's life mission seems to be improving the North American Bonsai Scene. He also has great prices, an easy to use website and is insanely reputable.

the ink you show is the store of kaneshin itself. I try to respect the producer and buy direct from them if they offer that option.

Ordering directly from Kaneshin is a very good option. Duties and shipping costs are something to keep in mind. Nishimura-san is great to deal with.

I'm happy to help if you happen to be in Canada, or if you're in the USA and only if no vendor there has what you're looking for. I don't make a penny on Kaneshin tools (I don't order enough to get good deals from them) -- I offer them to help direct newcomers towards tools that I believe are a very good price-quality ratio as opposed to the junk that comes up on the internet when you search for 'bonsai tools' on amazon for example.

Thank you! I appreciate the offer, I am in the USA.

Thank you all! I appreciate the helpful responses.

I have ordered directly from them via the above - great service.

I’ve bought from Kaneshin directly, but also from a couple of retailers in the States. One is out of business, but the other is @BigBen who had nos available, and that worked nicely since I was able to get the tools quickly - he has a post on the site of tools available.

But, as others noted above, dealing with the owner was great. I was able to get product that wasn’t available at the retailers, albeit with increased shipping time - but, many kudos to the Kaneshin directly site, I wouldn’t hesitate to order again if I needed a tool unavailable locally, a very positive experience.

Btw, in order of preference, I would see if bigben had what I wanted, followed by @Canada Bonsai, followed by Kaneshin direct.

Thanks for the recommendation, I looked at his site after I read his book “The little book of bonsai”. I think it is the best beginner book I have read. I keep a few copies on hand in case any of my neighbors or friends are interested in getting a tree. It does a great job of setting expectations of what it takes to be moderately successful.

Oh awesome! I was pumped that he used a pic of one of my Sierra Junipers in that book. Have you check out his newest book-The Essential Bonsai Book? I think it’s even better!

Thank so you very much for the kind words and for your business, MGTT!
