Blue Atlas Cedar Projects

Do you know who the grower was—should be on the original sales tag. We don’t seem to get anything that chunky around here, most just look not much thicker than the cane poles they are staked to.
Here is the day I bought it. Monrovia grows it. There is a nursery near by that has a decent amount of these chunky monkeys.IMG_6816.jpeg

I’ve put wire on this big BAC and did a trim of the thickest branches and left the leader and the branches I want to thicken long. In my styling I am very intentionally wiring the branches slightly angled up from the trunk, out then slightly down with all of the foliage then growing up. Feels like the most appropriate styling for the species. At least on this tree. It’s been about a month plus since the work and all of the buds have pushed the second growth of the year and are all extending very wel.

If you go to post 5 you’ll see the inspiration. Eventually as the pads fill out, I will start to bring them all down.

You know though. After visiting my original inspo, I’m thinking I need to angle my branches down a bit more!

Yikes. I’m so glad I looked at my original inspiration again. I will def be bringing the branches down as necessary. In my minds eye I really pictured the inspo image with branches doing a more up and out look.

While waiting on my son’s soccer practice to end earlier today I did a simple google search and came across this progression on a BAC. Bonsai Eejit has been a long time fave. Big fan of the tree he created. Also becoming a bigger and bigger fan of BAC generally.

When I bought this tree on August 12 for my bday, I couldn’t help but dive in. It responded well, but the work I did was probably a month later than I should have done. Fortunately I think all of the new growth, which there is a lot, will have time to harden off before first frost.

No derail wiring was done. Just basic structural. Should be a great tree long term Barring any catastrophes at repot or over winter.

Tree is about 30” from Soil surface.
