BonsaiMonks at The Monastery in Conyers Ga will no longer be shipping. They are closing the online E-Store and will make the last shipments mid-April. I spoke with Karen at the Monastery today and bought one of her few remaining bags of akadama. Karen said tools would be on sale. http://www.bonsaimonk.com/index.html then click on "specials"

The retail store and greenhouse operations will remain open. Karen said they recently closed the café during a round of budget cutting and the e-store was closed for the same reason.

That's unfortunate. I bought several frugally priced pots from them last year. Most of their other prices seemed pretty fair.

I have heard through the grapevine that the Monestary will eventually be out of the bonsai business entirely. This could be just hearsay, but I tend to believe it...:(.

That would be a shame if the Monastery stopped doing bonsai. I bought my first "finshed" bonsai there from Brother Paul in 1970. It was a triple trunk Japanese maple, in a pot one of the other Brothers made. Unfortunately, I no longer have it. It was literally "blown away" when the tornado of 1974 blew through Atlanta. No pictures, either. Sorry.

That was quite the adventure for me, at the time. I was 17 and I drove from Atlanta to Conyers to go visit a Monastery... and I'm not even Catholic!

Back then, Brother Paul was somewhat famous for his Kingsville boxwoods.
