Try a smaller -- and NOT blue -- pot as see what you think.

I think this will prove to be a very nice specimen with proper pruning and finishing. Take that part very slowly as this tree has seen decades go by. I prefer to flatten the pads a bit without making them look too much like poodles. You need to selectively remove about every 4th leaf to allow light down inside which will aid it's ability to produce foliage closer to the trunk. You really need to proceed a leaf at a time rather than a branch at a time. Very slow growers as you must already realize, so prune very slowly to prevent making a mistake that will take years to correct.

Nice looking old boxwood. I wonder what it would look like with the middle branch on the right side removed? I bet it would make a very interesting two trunked tree, the lower large branch on the right being the second trunk.

I would have left it upright as apposed to turning it upside down.
