Got this last September for $7.50 at a landscape nursery. It is the first tree I have ever purchased. I dug it out of the ground this afternoon. The large branch in the the left of the third pic was removed before it was planted out. The second pic shows what it looked like after that chop.

Before,

After, the first three are starting from front and then rotating 90 degrees clockwise for each of the next two. The last is a far view with a pack of smokes for size reference.

What variety of box wood is this? It looks burned, either from winter burn or too much direct sun light. I work at a landscape nursery, and boxwoods tend to favor only partial sun.....
This is my wintergreen boxwood i just started....

Just did a bit of work on this guy, and would appreciate some input. The long branches have been left for the health of the tree, and will get chopped back to green much closer to the trunk in spring, unless otherwise suggested.

i would be careful with wrapping branches with wire. I have a couple boxwoods myself and tried wiring them, ended up scaring up the branches pretty bad. I would maybe recommend wrapping the wire in floral tape (the green stuff) to soften it up. so far, lookin good. good luck

After letting the spring growth push for a bit, I Gave this one a pretty good trimming. I think it is coming along nicely.

Nice start on this. Glad to see you got rid of the wire. It doesn't do any good on boxwood mostly.

If this were mine, I'd let the top fill out for a few seasons. Don't prune anything for a while. Let it build a head of foliage.

Once it fills in a bit, you will have a nice Oak image.

Thanks Rock, don't be fooled though, I put more wire on;). I plan on letting it go for the summer, and pruning in August to take advantage of the growth spurt we see in september around here.

Seriously a wonderful progression on this tree. Great find! It seems to've back-budded really well, too. Do you have a pot in mind for it?
