5 years ago, in 2016, this fresh Yamadori Boxwood came into my garden. It had a fat base, and under the soil there was a surprise!: The tree had embraced a stone with his roots. 1.JPG
A year later I did the first initial styling:

He ws growing fast, In 2018 it looked like this:

The year after that I did a repot and dicided to replant the tree higher in his pot, to show more of the stone and make it more special.

I also wanted lower branches, to cover the thick past of the trunk.
in 2020 it looked like this:5.jpeg
Today 2021 it was time to work on the tree again: Happy with the result so far!:

I just wasn't seeing it in the first picture. You've done a great job on that!!!

I am somewhat ambivalent about the current design. The lower trunk is so strong and all of the energy is to the lower right so that the trunkline to the apex is almost an afterthought.

If you got tired of it, it would be easy enough to reduce the big lump of stump and give the design more balance. It would also bring the rock into a higher visual priority.

Thanks for your feedback! Really appriciated! For design could that be an option. For the tree, I'm afraid not, because of the following reason:
All the red parts are deadwood, all the green alive (most of the living vain is at the back). I think there is a big risk that when i'm cutting the right part, the whole green part might die back. That is a catastrophe for the tree....4 copy.jpg

This Buxus is crazy this year, so far: it started to grow already in februari this year, full winter! And now I pruned it. He's so strong!View attachment 435915
I am not a big fan of boxwood because they usually look really plastic, and fake. This one is amazing! Really nice job keeping the character of the rock and deadwood in its design!!!

Also this year this Buxus started to grow in februari. And now it was time for pruning. My pruningseason has officially started!
And after that, the tree was allowed to stay in the Tokonoma!IMG_3223.jpegIMG_3224.jpeg
