Hello Nuts,

I just realized I never did a thread on this tree I have grown from a cutting around 2019-2020… so now for the moment you all have been waiting for!!!

Although this Japanese beautyberry was grown from a cutting, it has always had a tendency to shoot suckers from the base.

Rather than fight against its natural growth habit, I started braiding the suckers together to create a fused gnarly trunk over time (just like this tree from the Gafu-ten I saw on Jonas’ website).IMG_6795.jpeg

Back in 2022, I started refinement too early. Afterwards, I decided to put it in a larger pot to grow out, and change the direction to a semi-cascade/cascade.

This is so beautiful, I loved it. I think I can't help starting one for myself as well.

Is this Callicarpa Americana? I understand that it is a fast grower. Do you know which subspecies of this tree is best for bonsai? Dichotoma, bodinieri, Japonica or Americana?

Thank you!

It’s a Callicarpa japonica I bought from @bonsaibp
