You know, I'm always instantly in love with cork bark anything. So this is pretty wicked. But a large part of the appeal of BRT is the contrast in color from peeling bark. Does the cork variety also peel? Can't tell if i like it more or less 🤔

Yes, it peels off, but...
No difference in color, as the pictures in the aforementioned thread show.
Maybe not so beautiful, but surely curious!

I’ll play along. Got this in December 2019

I grew out a sacrifice branch with the intent of air layering it off one day.

But I started to find the sacrifice branch more interesting than the top. So in august I attempted to air layer the top off. I think it was much too hot. Should’ve waited until spring. I lost the top but I do like what is left.

I took this cutting in April. Haven’t pruned it at all.

This is from April too. Pruned it once, it was much bigger and kept blowing over. But it was thickening nicely.

Here's my experience with BRT so far. Nothing much to look at yet, but they're some of my favorite sticks in pots.

I ended up getting these tiny cuttings (there are 2 sticks in this pot) for less than 3.00 USD via Facebook auctions in August 2019.

July 2020 - Cut back pretty hard, separated, root pruned, and repotted.

Ended up with these two (and 3 cuttings, which are all growing well):

Now that they are in good substrate with room to grow and the roots have been sorted out for the first time, I'll hopefully be able to let them go nuts to thicken next summer.

How about ladies? Corkbark rules too?

noun
  1. a person who is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about an activity, subject, or pastime.

If we would all agree to scratch out "knowledgeable", I might fit ;)

Here are my 2:

They were bought in June of 2019. I assume rooted cuttings. The trunks were ram-rod (well, zig-zag!) straight with no branching and just over 12" long at the time.

Mostly just letting them grow for now. I do what I can to promote low growth when I can. Some success with that...but I'd be happier with more :)

Maybe next summer I'll start contemplating eventual styles. We'll see how thick the trunk gets in another year.
