You could do some hard pruning during autumn if you want or just pinch the new growth during the growing season next year. My cedars backbud on branches all the time.
I'm not a cedar expert but everything I hear about them seems promising. They don't mind being potted and back bud readily (is what I hear). Looks like good material to me. Deodar cedar? Nice movement and a decent sized trunk. I only have a few atlas seedlings that grow like weeds
