Cjr The Rock BC

This is a clear example for the newbies to start to good material. I've been bonsai-ing for decades and I don't have much to show for it.... Uncle only did it about 5 years and look at all that. 😢

The way I see it, I could spend $25 on a tree, spend around 5 min per day average for watering, shaping, caring etc. for 5 years for a total 150 hours. Let's put that cost at minimum wage $7/hr, I wind up with a roughly $1000 tree. I bet a container grown BC from the nursery for 5 years won't be close in quality as The Rock. So if I can put the money up front, I go with the high quality route. I understand some of us just can't afford it or love the journey and chose the slow route. For this old man, I am lucky to be able to get a hold of the good stuff and am happily sharing my loot. Once I move to PA, you can bet I will be looking for high quality JM. I've been wanting to plant them but never had good luck down here.

Update. The Rock is due a cut back mid July for more ramification of the top. Today is roughly 1.5 years from collection. I am still looking for a fitting pot for the Rock.

Had an accident and a precious low branch was nearly broken off. It was taped back tight but I don’t have much hope. Went ahead and weeded the soil , pruned the escaped roots, did minor fall pruning, and top dressed with sphagnum. Will wire it before bud break in the spring.View attachment 573340IMG_5226.jpeg
