couple Zelkova seeds

Since this post has been in my mind for a while now, I am going to start a some Zelkovas from seed next season. My main question is - I notice that you pinch them back to force them to fork, when do you do it? After the 2nd set of true leaves has developed you pinch back to the 1st set of true leaves?

on the vigorous seedlings you'll see two shoots push out from the the first true leaves naturally around a month and half after sprouting. weak ones might only push one shoot. like normal deciduous work, wait for the leaves on these first two shoots to harden off and then prune back the shoot to three or four nodes. you should have around 6 to 10 nodes when you start this work. cut the leaves in half or up to 90% to let light hit the base of the nodes where you should already see new buds forming. there's a pretty good break down of what im doing in post #35.

These have a nice slower growth to them and look real healthy.Definately a testament to the perlite.......zelkova do great in pure perlite.....
Great job!

I decided a forest for mine.........I am getting away from stonewool .........perhaps I will get to the kabudachi again sometime..........for now a nicenlarge forest...planted in a flat of perlite...AS IS!!!20251020_133953.jpg
