Dawn red wood in PA

The roots on a Dawn Redwood are very aggressive, like a ficus In Florida.
The trunk on that one is impressive.

I was first exposed to Metasequoia glyptostroboides during a college summer break when I interned at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston. Scientists from Harvard were among the group that found them growing in China in the 1940's and more than a few Dawn Redwoods at the Arboretum are the results of the first seeds sourced from China during that expedition. Some of the oldest examples of the species outside of China are there... it was love at first sight!
