I agree looking at it in this state ....

But disagree overall.

In time it will look better.

I think the arching branches so close make it more straight.
I remedy that by waiting for a bud to sprout under the old branch, already pointing down, and cut back to it.

I wouldn't be shy about tightening up the canopy though. Keep it that thin!

I like it as is, on a bare or leaves just starting this is a very elegant design. Show a picture late summer, just to see how it looks with leaves.
