Hi all,

My most beautiful ficus is loosing a lot of leaves now, it was thriving before. Its still bringing new shoots, but lost 30% of its leaves, and on one branch almost all. Im worried about that branch fully dying, as i worked a lot on this tree to have this shape. Some of the sub branches on that one are already fully dry and dead.

Some of the leaves turn a bit yellowish and just fall, some of them have brown spots, some of them turn brown and curl up.
Could you give me any advice?
Its indoors, 25C temperature, recently moved it to a window directly to help it - but now theres little light and only for a short time during the day, so i already ordered growlights for it. Its kept constantly moist, fertilized every 2 weeks. Potted in akadama, lava stone and bonsai soil mix.

Its still growing new shoots, but not on the side, where its loosing the most leaves.

Leave it in one place, make sure theres no drafts, I would unwire (the wiring is a bit loose and sloppy), and give it as much light as possible once the grow lights come. I have mine inside with no natural light and only artificial light all winter and they do fine until I can get them outside in mid to late spring. Ficus drop leaves from stress. Yellow leaves are common when their conditions change, especially light conditions.

Okay, i will try this, thanks!

I get yellow leaves on Ficus when there is a soil problem. Cool temps and wet soil is the usual trigger for yellow leaves and leaves dropping on my Ficus. Consider they are tropical trees where most rain is in the warm season with a dry cool season. Most Ficus can cope with quite dry roots so I try to let the soil dry out and provide minimal watering through winter.
Light is the other big factor indoors. What we see as a bright room is a dark cave to an outdoor tree. Not enough light means the leaves cannot make food so the tree cannot afford to maintain unproductive leaves.
Cold temps can also damage Ficus leaves. Different species have different tolerance to cold but, generally, I'd try to keep temps above 5C, maybe 10C if possible. Need to check how cold the air gets inside your windows on cold nights.
