Starting to make a bit of progress with a QLD Small Leaf Fig (Ficus Obliqua/Eugenoides?) so will mark this as a progression. This was actually my very first tree and what sparked my interest in Bonsai. I had purchased it as a gift to my mother, with a beginners book and promptly potted it up and wired it. She left it in full sun out by her pool with only occasional watering for the next 2 years. I repotted it once during that time, pruned it maybe twice. During that time I had started my own collection, my mother offered the tree back to my care as she could see I had a far greater interest in bonsai.
Skip forward...Ive just completed its second round of styling. Unfortunately I didn't grab any photos after receiving the tree back, looked mostly like the first image only a lot fatter all over. I chopped the trunk back to the first branch and tilted it. Repotted out of the colander into a bonsai pot, growth was too slow for what needed to be done. This year back into a grow pot to help close the wounds and work on the nebari. I still have another sacrifice in the same spot, its closing the wound of the first but I will chop it off next month and strike it as a cutting.
