Thats probably a conservative guess but still in the ballpark. I asked Jim Barrett one time, The person thru the years who has helped me fill in the gaps, about getting a issue number one. He said forget it, there were just not many made. He had not seen any for over 30 years. In those early years, 1967 being the tenth anniversary of the new California Bonsai Society, while being a much older club, it had been incorporated ten years before. This would be the beginning of the new yearly magazine. Mine go thru 1988 and I started buying them in 1983 so I bought the last five while they were making them. Most of the others I have bought at conventions as back issues when the show up. Anyone with knowledge of this magazine that can tell me how long they printed this would be appreciated.
Finding a number one issue on ebay was a super stroke of luck. It started with a starting bid of $9.95, I placed a proxy bid of $20.50 and snagged it three days later. I couldn't believe it. Untill winning this bid the oldest I had was the issue Number 3, 1969. That issue has a color picture of "Goshin" in it with only 7 trees and looking pretty young still.
