Looks like Cedar of Lebanon in this picture. I bit stiffer than a normal Deodar Cedar and less so than Atlas Cedar.

Nice work. My thought would be to start eliminating needles close to the trunk. Old trees seem to have more openness with needles pushed out to the sides to gather sunlight.

Tieball...when you say "start eliminating needles close to the trunk", I am assuming that you are talking about those on the branches. Could you tell me about how that is done, how many to remove, how often etc until you get where you need to be? Help appreciated. Peter
