Got this tree over the summer. It was very bushy and I couldn't see what was going on inside. Finally the leaves are off and this is what I have.
I don't know what the nebari looks like but I'm assuming since its from telperion farms it should be nice.
Any help with a direction or what to do?
Thanks for your help!!
I also have a burning bush I'll post sometime soon.

No worries Kev much better now! For me, the first thing I would do is find out what your nebari looks like. It all starts there at least with deciduous material. Typically this should be your first step in determining the rest of the tree. Work from the bottom up.
I would also start to edit and cut back to a simpler overall structure. Nice piece of raw material BTW :)

Also I would not do any work now but wait until late Winter/early Spring.

Thanks for the reply MACH. I was planning on waiting till I repot to determin the main trunk line and front of the tree. But there is so much going on up top I want to lose some of top so the next grow season goes to good use. I'm just not sure what I should remove.

You should at least try to determine a front before you start thinning the herd. So give the base a brush off, and take some more photos. If you have a nice all around base, then you can thin away...But you wouldn't want to remove something you'll wish you hadn't.

Nice looking material as Mach said.

I brushed off the base and did a little digging and tugging on some roots in September. I couldn't see much but some of the flare because of all the fine roots in the way. It is root bound and because I got it so late in the season I didn't want to mess with the roots to much.

Guess I will have to wait another season.

Yes again, I would suggest to wait and do all this heavy work in early Spring. You need to know what's below to know what you need to keep above :)

So where are you going to make the initial cuts for taper? I love these threads. When we get to see the raw stock, follow your thought process, and inevitably overbear with our stinky opinions.

Nice pickup.

Thanks MACH!!! Spring time it is!

I am not sure. Once I repot this little gem and see what's going on under the soil line I will pick a front and go from there. Till then.............. It's just a waiting game.
Glade I have indoor tropicals to keep me busy:o
