Fuji Cherry

That's probably the best trunk I've seen on one of these.

Nice...

I like the little trunk.

Any tricks you have learned with this species? I have a medium sized tree that I'm developing, and there isn't much out there for information... Nice tree!
Get yourself a copy of International Bonsai 2005 #1 and 1998 #1. There if great information about Cherries there.
Other than that. Don't wire too much, seal all wounds, and repot every year, never let them dry out are the most important points. I also use dolomite once or twice a year and seaweed solution every month on top of normal fertilizing. ( I have seen a flowering cherry come back from the dead after a seaweed application!)
The feeding in spring from about when it has 2 pairs of leaves to early summer is vital. They don't do much the rest of the year.

Thanks for the info. Repotting every year even if it's not root bound?

Very nice tree - I think maybe a blue pot would look good

your profile says Australia, you should be in late autumn or early winter, ah, that makes sense, both are ''winter bloomers''. Had to think outloud. We have at least 6 months here before we see cherries in bloom again.

Really nice, and I really like the size of your chojubai clump and the cool trunk on your cherry. Nice, these are both mature plants, not just sticks in pots. Nicely done.

Michael, that is a magnificent tree, you should be very proud of ~25 years of work on this specimen. I actually like the pot it is currently in, especially the shape and dimensions.

See what you've done, now I have to get a flowering cherry! My refrigerator is going to be packed with trees come November. I can just hear the rustling of divorce papers alreadyo_O

:p
Try for a Prunus campanulata (Taiwan Cherry) They can handle the heat a bit better.

A great little tree.

I have one as a patio tree, it's a pity that the flowers don't last very long compared to other Prunus.

nice one i realy like it!!
i also have a little fuji cherry wich is i will grow for bonsai!

maybe you could answer my question
repot before or after it blooms?

and why do you reccomend every year repotting?

I have absolutely destroyed this tree by pruning it too hard and I will never forgive my stupidity. 25 years down the drain. But I have learned a lesson.

Yes repot when the blooming is just about over. I have always repotted every year but every 2 is probably ok but you will have to be especially careful the second summer. Also I would absolutely recommend akadama (or similar) and sand 70/30 for these and not too coarse. About 3 mm for the main soil and 5 or 6 for the bottom layer should be good. With moss on top to protect the soil and the roots.

Thats not cool :(
Was actualy one of the best fuji's ive seen

I got two now both survived repotting
One got wired too and i lost allot of branches on that one and it didnt grow to well but alive !

Are you serious, Michael?!?!
I simply cannot believe this....
However, what exactly do you mean by "absolutely destroyed" ?
