I got some gingko seeds given to me, maybe a dozen or so with flesh still on. Had to put them in the trunk of my car for the drive home so I didn't get sick from the stink. Just got done peeling the flesh off and I barely kept my lunch down. Now I know why they were free!

Advice: if you ever get offered gingko seeds, make sure they still aren't inside the fruit!

They say its the same thing with an old skeleton too ...

You know, you can buy viable seeds at many Asian groceries. Look for the seeds that have 3 ridges.....those are likely male trees....or so am I told. I collected, cleaned and tried the stinky method. It was not worth it.

Gingko wasn't even on my radar of trees of interest to add to my collection, but free is free and worth a shot. But yea, never again will I try this.

I heard that either the male or female tree get to stinking up the joint when bearing fruit. I guess you just got first hand knowledge of that. I'm not a fan of the gingo bonsai, so knowing that I would surely have just nodded and waved as I drove by that offer! Glad you're 5 hrs north of me. You selling the car now?

Fruit/offspring is borne by females. That is the definition of 'female'.

On the other hand 'stinking up the joint' has lots of meanings.

Never really thought about it in that way. Makes sense. Not going to comment about the stinky thing as it pertains to the above.
