I didn't see these posts, sorry for not replying sooner.
Well, they are tough to keep in pots where I live. However, I do still have a couple in pot after all this time. I would say they don't make good bonsai because of the branch growth pattern. It's all over the place and hard to control. The bases are great if you leave them in the ground and just let them do their thing for a few years. Trying to train the branches is just about impossible so I just let them grow how they want to and keep them pruned back. If I get some time this weekend I'll snap a few photos and post them.
