Good or bad...it's in the pot. Still an ugly tree.

I think that when you get some age and character in the branches it will make a great winter tree. Ugly, but great.

Time for an update. Did a pruning job today. Added some verbage under the elm tab at the blog to go along with todays work.

That would be me. Nice tree, ya jerk. :p ;)

Seriously though, very convincing, really enjoyed reading through the thread and how you developed the branch structure.

Like this elm - what kind of pot are you thinking for its future ?
Thanks, the tree is currently in a Tokoname pot by Kaiyou, rough gray pot. Right now I like the deeper pot, but I have no idea what may be better for the future. I know that what ever it is it will be rustic and gnarly.

Looking good. This pot is a better fit than the shallower one.

The dead root on the left makes the composition's balance tense to me. I photoshopped it partly out, which convinced me I like it there better than gone. Bonsai is strange sometimes.

I love progressions like this one

And it is a beautifully ugly tree, which is something like organized chaos =) really cool tree and progressions like this reassure me that one day I'll have trees in bonsai pots also

I applaud the openness of the design especially considering how wild elm growth can get. I also like that the openness highlights the “ugly” part of the tree, the trunk and Nebari. Well done al.
