I had seen that in Vietnam people grow bonsai in a kid of elevated pits

some made of concrete

Some made of bricks

And I'm wondering what is it for: Avoid inundations maybe? Easiness to work on the trees? Cheaper option than big training pot?

Anyone has information about this technique?

Greetings and many thanks in advance for yours comments.

Maximizing bonsai on steroids. Excellent drainage, root control, proper working height & space for constant wiring, defoliating, trimming nearly daily in a climate that is a hot-house without the house! Field growing benefits in working stations. Walter Pall trees with Japanese OCD control in a place without a growth off-season. The daily high is 90°F in the hot season and drops all the way down to 82° in the cool season...
