Well, this is quite young. Many directions you can go.

It really depends on what you want out of it. Do you want to keep it smaller or grow it bigger? Just something to bonsai for now?

I really think the ground or an anderson flat would really help develop the trunk. In the meantime, get your hands on few more trees to keep you occupied.

Good luck. Keep us posted on the progress!

I’d like to grow it out more.

Get the wire off of it. It’s Not doing anything. And potentially a problem. Boxwood don’t like wire very much. Clip and grow produces better results If you want bigger plant it out in the ground. Harland’s boxwood is not all that winter hardy. USDA zones 7-9 so a harsh winter I your area might set it back.

This will heal over I presume?

'Boxus harlandii, decent boxwood for bonsai. It is tough with good bark and small leaves. It responds well to hard cutbacks so let it grow and run until it gets the size you want. I have one. It is my wife's tree (anything to get her involved!) They like full sun but here in Georgia, I like to give it afternoon shade June until the first of September. You aren't too much farther north so you might consider doing something similar.
