Wow. Nice tree and for $50 it looks even better! Do you have any leafless pics?

I agree to the above posts....very nice material for $50! To me, though, it looks too short, if that makes any sense. I would grow a new apex a little higher. The nebari is great, the bark is even mature, which is not something that you see on many japanese maples because it just takes so long, and the ramification is perfect!

"I would grow a new apex a little higher"

Weeelll, There 's the problem. Kiyohime are ery weak apically, spending time throwing side branches and abandoning their tops...

Yeah, just after I posted that I remembered that Kiyo hime is the cultivar that never gets past 2 feet but can be over 10 feet wide!

I would still try, though...you never know, it might work! ;)

I think it needs a new pot. Something shallower but with a bigger area.

If I remember reading correctly they say not to mess with the top of the tree cause it won't grow back correctly. Just worry about trimming the sides so it doesn't get out of hand.

thanks for the help. It's my first kiyohime and I've always found them very attractive. They are difficult to train in a classical way so I'm just gonna let it grow like it wants to and trim as needed to keep in shape.
