Hoses and watering wands

Thanks for the tips. I had heard about the hot water but had forgotten about it. If it wasn’t raining all day, I’d give it a go! Failing that and a tighter clamp, I’ll back it up with a second one.

Very Hot water definitely helps. It softens the hose up if you let it sit for a minute and makes things more effective. You can also apply the clamps to the warmed up hose and they will tend to hold better.

Alright, I made two changes (yes, poor independent variable isolation, I know!) and it seems to have worked out. As I mentioned, I heated the hose segment to connecting it to the wand, which allowed me to get it a little bit higher on the wand shaft. The other change is that I positioned the clamp just below the bead in the stem. Hmmm come to think of it, there were actually 4 independent variables, as I actually changed the hose connecting to the adapter and tightened the clamp a bit more. Clearly, I’m no scientist.

The Kyozen does put out a gentle spray that really is fantastic but the fragility of the mesh, jeez!

I’ve replaced the mesh 4 times (!) since I bit the bullet on the Kyozen wand a year ago. With shipping from japan it comes to about 50 € every time.

Talking to Kaneshin about this problem their answer was that its basically an accepted annual cost for owning one. Based on that I would not recommend the Kyozen, however fantastic the sprayhead. Which it really is.

I use Dramm now. Sturdy, yes but the Dramm doesnt come close to the Kyozen.

Its a bummer

My masakuni's going strong since May 2020. I've had to massage a dent out of the mesh exactly 2 times (once this week) to restore a soft shower. Other than that, no issues. Its easily the best I've used and well worth what I paid for it more than 5 years ago, now.

The type of wand one uses really depends on the set up a practitioner has. For example a copper wand would never work for the work we use a wand for besides strictly bonsai watering.

We burned up quite a few wands over the years, including multiple Roth, Dramms etc.

Finally ended up with Mazakuni’s for all watering. (Plastic head?? Not ours which are solid metal). One has three years of hard duty on it. Its head popped off at 2.5 years ands I just glued it back on with water proof epoxy. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking….

For misting Dramm hands down. (please do not post saying misting is worthless. We’ve experimented extensively about this, used correctly it has its place.).
