Identification of a black bark disease

Please see attached photos. The first is a picture of the trunk of my JM showing black lesions on the bark. The second is the dying branches. Thee also have black lesions on them. Can anyone identify this disease? Also, is the tree doomed or can it recover from this?

Could be something bacterial like "bacterial wetwood". That's a collective name for bacterial infections that evoke a flux (or sap flush, phenolic bleeding) response.

It shouldn't be a death sentence for the tree, but it is a sign that it has trouble fending it off.
