Ilex ID??

This little tree was tagged simply as "ilex crenata", though, obviously it is not a regular one.
I am familiar with the regular ilex crenata (Japanese holly), the evergreen shrub with glossy, convex leaves.
I am also familiar with the "soft touch" dwarf variety.
This one is different though....
Small leaves, very short internodes...
