I’ve finally gotten around to making a big enclosure for overwintering my tropicals. It’s has two 65” wide, 24” deep, 24” tall waterproof shelves. It’s way more space than I currently need but that just means I have room to expand my collection 👍
I already have the lights. They’re not the best but they’re good enough and they’ll be replaced next year. I’m also adding some terrarium fans.
I have to finish waterproofing the lower shelf and finish the plywood facing then trim and sand/stain.
Then of course the doors.
I’m building a simple stand next.
I’m done for the night, I’ll update with progress.

Why do you need doors? Is this not going to be inside?

Yes, it will be inside. But I want to be able to control the humidity. It gets well below 40% humidity in the winter so the last three years I’ve kept all my tropicals in a similar enclosure. It’s worked really well, and I’m able to grow areal root much easier than when they’re on the benches during the warm months.

edit: 50%, it gets below 50% humidity

A test piece for the trim. I’m cutting down 2x4s on the table saw to make this trim. It’s waaaaay cheaper than buying the pre-made trim. I can get at least 16’ out of one 8’ 2x4 - so that’s like $0.40us per foot compared to $2.50 per foot of the pre-made stuff 😬
