Picked up this Shohin sized white beech a few weeks ago and keen to start documenting it's progress.

This year will just be feeding well, feeding roots with some seaweed and letting it grow.Maybe a repot next year to begin to work on the nebari.

Trunk colour is beautiful and glad to have my hands on one as they are rare in the UK

Yeah I like the starting movement, excited to see how this comes along in my hands.

I don't see sea weed as a fertilizer either. I do believe it helps as stress reliever/supporter for roots.
Yeah this is the same guy that said he observed negative growth when using scoria...

Tree has been left unpruned to grow nicely but recently this discoloration and browning has developed.

Not quite sure on the cause, wondering if it just adjusting to life in its new climate. Its been warmer in Scotland than usual but not really more than 25oC.

It's been out of full sun this week just incase that's the issue but I am not sure.

Congrats on getting a Japanese beech. They seem to be rare everywhere! Keep your tree in a shaded to semi shaded location from late spring through summer. It can go back in full sun in fall. Too much sun will distort and discolor the leaves.
