Dug up these 6 JM seedlings from under a family's JM and was wondering if anyone has any tips or advice on how to increase their chances of survival? For now I potted them up in what I had available, watered them, and am keeping them out of sunlight for a week or 2.

If anyone has any tips, advice, or anything I should look out for then I would love to hear it!

Youre doing good. I would also increase soil/ pot size. I have hundreds under my AP right now. ill be digging them and putting in clumps in quart pots.

Maple seedlings transplant very easily so chances of surviving are good.
Also no problem cutting or breaking roots at this stage as seedlings are very good at recovering from damaged roots. I prefer to chop the tap root at this stage to promote a much better radial root system.
It's not really necessary to keep transplants out of direct sun. Spring sun is generally not too harsh. Provided you can keep the soil damp they should be OK in sun.

I concur with a larger pot. I usually put seedlings into 3 or 4 inch diameter pots. Not only easier to keep alive, but the extra root space will also allow more growth this coming Spring and Summer.
No problem transplanting again. With seedlings this young I don't think timing is any problem so now or in a couple of weeks but the more leaves they have the more care you'll need to take.

Alright I potted them all up into these small plastic pots, should last me the season. Broke the roots on one of them pretty bad, hoping they grow back but if they don't and it dies it's not a big deal
