Just Chopped a Willow Oak

I agree with jeremy, I personally would have chopped it at around 3 or 4 inches.

Ok, I will chop it again. I wasn't thinking about proportions when I did it. Was a spur of the moment thought of getting it out of the flower bed, that turned into a choping experiment to watch it back bud and see how well it will recover.

I'll hack it back some when I get home. Thanks for the advice.
 
Have interesting trunk to start with now. One thing later on if digging this is that Oaks tend to send down long taproot with few side roots. If taproot is not straight may be able to use as interesting trunk. Watch to see where lowest sprouts grow and do not cut back further as suspect root itself will not sprout below trunk;).
 
That lower chop is much better. Let's see where it goes. Thanks for posting.
