I was taught to use it during repotting. Soak the repotted tree in KLN bath for
saturation. Hormones to stimulate root growth. I also use it when starting cuttings for same reason.
As someone who likes go faster items in other areas, I’m skeptical about miracle soil additives or root solutions. Vitamin B1, Superthrive, HB 101, I choose otherwise. Some items that I do have interest in like humic acid, kelp and bio char at least have some support in the literature.
A nagging question on all miracle additives, that is only sometimes answered is where’s the data? The only side to side large comparison I’ve encountered was done at Nuccios Nursery years ago when they used rooting hormone on a large group of their cuttings. The result was no difference than without.
That’s not to say hormones and additives don’t work. They do in some instances, especially in hydroponics and closed circuit systems, but that’s an entirely different duck then the one we deal with. The Dutch are expert on using these sorts of chemicals on their super farms. They really know their stuff about high intensity farming. However for bonsai
@cmeg1 is pretty expert on this type of arrangement. He might weigh in on this question for actual bonsai.
There is a really good inexpensive bonsai book called Bonsai Heresay by Michael Hagedorn that I highly recommend for all beginners, including myself, that will help ground folks on questions like this. Give it a try and save your money for a good tree or two.
