Thought you might like to see the dark red quince I keep talking about. Love the color, but straight growing tendancy is a pain. This quince was potted last year, so i let it bloom this year and will be styling later this year. The picture in the pot is true color of blooms individual is more reddish looking having just opened and not exact dark red as when mature.

Nice blooms. May I ask you about the growth rate there for you? Curious as they are on my Spring "look into" list. Thanks in advance.

From what I understand some flowering plants cannot give you the best of both worlds. You have to decide if the foliage is the reason for growing them or the flowers but sometimes you cannot have them both. In Japan there are trees that are brought only at flowering time ant then hustled off to the back forty till next year.

Good point and anything here grown for flowers alone does indeed get shuffled to the side at various times of the year. They do add pleasant splashes of color if chosen and displayed properly along with your trees and with correct choices you can rotate several types for nice changes that go along with the seasons.

This is true for my Miss Kim Lilac. It gets to have a space in my backyard while blooming. Afterwards is goes back to my growing out section of trees. It has it's moment in the sun...but just a few weeks.

i have both miss kim and little pat lilacs. They both have an acceptable tree shape as I've worked on them for several years. My lil pat is showing some purple in the beginning of the blooms already. It's also the better of the two lillacs for shape. leaves are circularly round as opposed to the sharper pointed ones of miss kim, which I like better....

The new growth in the quince pictured in the pot averages around 6 inches. stuff in the ground
is all of a foot long.
