I collected this tree at Mammoth Mountain in October 2013. Took it to may workshop with Peter Tea yesterday for first wiring and styling.
Here it is before starting work.

One large branch needed a big bend downward so I wrapped it first with raffia, then with rubber and used three strands of 4 GA. wire. Then I used rebar to brace the tree so it only bent where I wanted. I had to bend a piece of rebar to fit the tree. I set up a guy wire and used a lever to bend the branch.
The rebar bracing:

The big bend:

The result. Now the plan is to let it grow and recover for a year.

After styling the tree is 36" tall.

I am extremely impressed. Thanks for these photos. I have a Ponderosa Yamadori that has been perplexing me. Never thought of using rebar.
