Pretty nice composition for a first attempt, but it looks like the tree is in potting soil. If so, you may want to gently lift it from the bonsai container and put it back in the nursery can or in the ground for the year. Once it recovers, you can work out the potting soil and plant it with a bonsai mix. Good luck!

Assuming most junis in a can would need root work done to ge it in the bonsai pot, my advise would be leave it alone now until next early spring. Then begin to style the branches and possibly trunk.

In the mean time, take some time to discover juniper bonsai, thier hortucultural needs, and how they should be trained for bonsai.

If the soil you used is a potting soil you will need to be carefull as far as watering goes, it needs to dry down(not dried out) then be watered again. The soil we use isn't really, read up on soil recipies, you should find enough to keep you busy and form a bunch of questions.

I suppose you could wash off the remaining rootball and put ina draining bonsai soil, but you have done a bit much already it looks like.

Thanks :) yes it is potting soil the root system was so compact I was unsure whether to mess with it to much considering the amount of work done to the top so i removed 1/3 off the bottom added peat soil compost.

Thanks Bill :)yes I have done alot and she prob. Needs to rest now.

I noticed it's been a couple of years since you first posted/started this tree. How is it going? Pics??

I'm curious, as I just bought a "nursery" Parsons Juniper myself a few days ago.
