Making pots

I am new to pot making. I have been doing round pots for a while and they are coming out very nice, I am honestly trying to do rectangles and also ovals. I am asking if any potters can help me out with how to go about this. Besides for the answer of rolling it out and building it. Is there any YouTube you recommend is there any books that you recommend as a potter what do you find the best way to be.

I imagine, as with most things, this is a huge topic! I'll never be a potter but I would like to understand some of the basics if only to know how to better shop ;) Some questions: What's a cone? And how many do I need? I understand that a cone is something to do with how hot a piece is...

Most hand-built pots (not wheel thrown) are made from slabs that are leather-hard. This is a technique I've been working on to make pots from wet slabs. This thread will go step by step showing how this finished pot is constructed.
