Mealy Bugs on Pine

Did the mealybugs DIE or just get drunk?
Are drunk mealybugs easy to get rid of or do you need to lure them to a cheesy motel with a mealybug hooker?

Pretty sure I got them piss drunk. The cheap hookers were spiders in disguise, they're done for....

The infestation is worse than I had imagined

I am happy you took the extra time and the plant will be as too ;) They are very stealthy but can be easily beaten. For the record a lot of insects hide like that and I have seen experiments at Cornell University where they planted duplicate crops one normal and one with the soil mounds covered in Aluminum foil. The results were amazing. The plants over foil were far more vigorous and insect free...

I just gave the IPA/Water mix a try. i also have an eastern white pine that is infested. I will let you know if the pine dies

Hey all! the alcohol solution worked great. I really soaked each node like crazy once a week and then stopped after a month and it started to come back but then i sprayed again every few weeks for about a month and got some really good new growth this season. pine is happy!

Its probably either Woolly Aphids or Pine Adelgid. Unlikely that it would be Mealy bug. But treatments would not be dissimilar.

Personally had good luck with 2 to 3 applications of insecticidal soap.

Be diligent as these buggers will hide in the soil and appear to be gone, raising their ugly heads when you don't expect it.
