This weekend I bought a Mugo pine from Lowe's. I have read the tutorial ( https://www.bonsainut.com/resources/compiled-vance-wood-on-mugo-pines.23/ ) and have a question.
So I did not mess with the roots much, other than breaking up the tight ball it had from the store container, I put it in a pot that was just a little larger than what it came in so the root-ball/soil fit well.
My question is this, its the beginning of Oct (zone 7) can I trim out some of the foliage to expose the trunk and get a better ascetic or should I wait until next July to do any trimming of the foliage (its producing nice candles right now so I haven't done anything to the foliage at all)
Thank you for your help

If you could really limit yourself to 25% or less removal of the foliage, the tree should be okay. I would probably wait until next year, because I never guess right when it comes to limiting the amount of foliage to remove.
