Technically, my first bonsai was a Christmas gift from my mother - amazon juniper.

This shimpaku is from a bonsai basics community Ed. Class by Lionel Flood.

Nice tree but eh.. I thought you had several trees?
Thanks. Yeah lots in the works. All varying levels of mediocre. I don’t think this one is thriving. But it is my first go at it. 😀

Doh. This is actually my first tree. I’ve had this tree in other posts but.... will include it here as well.
Amazon bonsai from my mother. 9 green box was the seller. 2 cuttings in a plastic bag. 😁

Serious question please: Is bigger trunk desired at all? If so Bonsai pot is last place small tree should be but should be in grow box or ground for development😌.

Hmmm, never really thought of putting this one in a grow out container. The intro class was the type where you get a tree, repot and wire it into a small trainer.
You would grow it out bigger?

Somebody else might know differently (maybe it is early enough to re-repot it) but I do not think it would be a good idea to take this out two days after a repot and pot it bigger. Also, it will take several years in a grow pot for a cutting this size to get very big at all. Why not enjoy this as it is and practice pruning/wiring, and get another shimpaku cutting for growing out? That is what I would do.

Won’t be repotting this year. Was just repotted early this spring.
i’ve had this tree for over three years now and it is starting to show more age a little-which I like.
I may work the roots a little more next year and put in slightly bigger pot but want to keep it shohin size without chopping.
I do like the idea of just getting another shimpaku to grow out and do a bigger tree.

‘Lil Amazon procumbens Got a new pot today. This one was becoming very slow to drain. IMG_0787.jpegA little more room to grow.
IMG_0788.jpegKept the moss.
IMG_0789.jpegThe soil actually, pretty good, except for the top layer had turned to muck. So I raked it out.

I thought about putting this one on a dish or slab, but just decided to go safer route and use the unglazed pot IMG_0790.jpegIn the new home.
