Oak tree seedling

Here we go. My Internet is finally letting me upload the pictures
Oaks/Maples frustratingly SLOW😖to add trunk size. Much tall growth needed to succeed. Or MANY years vigorous growth other directions.

It takes years🙄. Much patience/growth required🤨.

Ficus and trident maples would show fusion by now. I suspect oaks are not going to really fuse. The may grow tightly entwined roots and the bases will deform to accommodate neighbors, but I don't think fusion is in the cards. I have seen hackberry fuse in the wild. Rare event, but that's another species to try.

I have seen fantastic fuse by Crataegus aestivalis. I wonder if the hawthorn in England of the same genus would fuse just as well.

Check out KDB BONSAI for info on fusing. It seems Kennet has fused almost everything.

Just a quick question. Is now an okay time to repot an oak tree a it is looking a bit pot bound.

I assume thst until the trunk is the diameter I want I should just continue repotting?

Assuming you're in the northern hemisphere, by the look of the leaves, so it's autumn. No, wait until spring to repot.
Oaks can be sensitive if you repot them at the wrong time. I have lost a small oak a few years ago by repotting it at the wrong time - in my case late summer.
The pot in your photos looks big enough to hold out until spring time.
If you're *really* worried you could slip pot into a bigger pot without touching the root ball at all. But personally I would just wait til spring.

Sorry, I'm in England. I'm not massively worried I just noticed that it's roots were showing a bit, so thought I'd do it if it was the right time. Guess I'll wait until after Christmas then 😅

Thanks for the tip

The absolute safest time is just when you see the buds swelling in March or so, before the new leaves pop. But a lot of us can't be so precise, if you have dozens of trees to repot then you just work through them in priority order from march through to may.

So it's the new year, and all of the leaves have finally dropped. So I was wondering whether you could offer some suggestions on my oak seedlings (or saplings? Not quite sure when the former becomes the latter).

The first tree I'm not best pleased with the shape but not really sure what shape to wire it. Debsying about chopping it off eventually right down to the first branch or 2 once it's a few years old ?

As for the pot of seedlings, they're only about a year old so not really planning on doing anything with them yet though was thinking of maybe trying an oak clump of forest?
But as you can see in the picture, one of them in particular has properly taken off. So I so know whether I should prune it a bit just so it doesn't become tall and straggly? Or whether I should just let it do its thing for a few more years ?

And thoughts would be super appreciated😄
