Grown from seed. The three individual trees then planted together. About 4 years old. Next year going to fertilize heavily, prune in summer, and wire some structure. In a few years, I may try cutting the bark back a little to get them to fuse together at the base.

I could be wrong on this, but pines aren't too prone to contact grafting: maybe a little surgery is required to get them to join together

Yeah, I was going to cut into them slighlty and try letting them fuse that way. I think it should work alright. Maybe youre right though and they wont fuse that way.

Slight adjustments. Im going to grow out towards the left and down as a semi-cascade keeping the right side tighter to trunk.

Fertilized, removed one small low branch of no consequence. Wire is still not biting in... will likely remain til next spring.

Great progress!

What is the design plan from here?

Cheers

Today. Removed downward facing needles. Removed a branch that was clogging design. Didnt touch any of the candles since they were all even in length. Poked some holes into the soil to get better water penetration and fertilized. Also wired one branch on the right side.

Will leave rest of season other than fertilization in preparation for a potential repot next year.
