I purchased a Pomegranate to put in the ground for a few years. When I started reading about the care of them I keep seeing to keep them from frost. Will the frost kill the tree or is it just meaning the fruit? Middle of Alabama, should be OK for this tree

Mine has never been protected from frosts and it's in a pot. It's still kicking after 5 years.

Poms will be fine in the ground or even bonsai pot in your climate, I am in DC area (Zone 7A) and it's fine...Just mulch it in the winter.

You can still experience Winter losses of pomegranate even in Zone 8. Many pom cultivars are rated 8b for hardiness. Ideally they should not get too wet either, especially during dormancy.
