Pomegranate Project

Of recent San Gabriel nursery has been stocking and selling a lot of pomegranate bonsai. It was a recent edition in the last few months or so. All of the pomegranates look similar to mine or yours so it is likely the same variety. There was a big rotted fruit on mine that I removed after purchase too.
Agreed.
I wouldn't be suprised at mislabeling though. They have thousands of plants--my first tree purchased from them was what I thought to be an oriental sweet gum. It was in December so there were no leaves. It ended up being a trident maple.
Fair enough. The thing that makes me skeptical is the specific type in question - Given how much more desirable the twisty variety is, it seems less likely. 'Wonderful' is the most common commercially grown variety in California, so it's readily available.

On the flip side, the fruits on mine weren't as big as I expect 'wonderful' to be . . . I'd certainly be happy to be wrong and find out I got a much better tree than I though ;)

Here is one at the nursery. You can see the twisting beginning at the base of the trunk. Couldn't the variety still be wonderful but bear the twisting quality?

Hi; nice to "see" you. I'll think about it, but the trunk doesn't seem ideal.
It was nice to see you in person :)
The mislabeling is quite understandable. You can see it also has wrong spelling!

Hi ColinFraser,
My teacher, Mr. Richard Ota, is the curator at the SG nursery. That's why I know it! :)

Do you know why they grow and sell grafted white pines at San Gabriel Nursery? I purchased one from them and its doing fine even with a semi-repotting early summer but from what I've heard white pines don't thrive or last long in Southern California. If that's true why do they sell these there?

Mr. Ota used to tell me that most of customers of SG nursery was from the East Coast. It is probably why that the nursery has grown white pine.

Yeah some of their stuff there is way overpriced. I don't think they're in a rush to sell larger specimens but they leave then out at higher prices if someone really wants it.
