Having issues with powdery mildew on a maple. I defoliated the whole tree yesterday in hopes to get it under control but I'm worried the new growth will be attacked, recommendations on treating this?

Spray regularly with a fungicide that inhibits mildew. I use Bayer Fungus Fighter, not sure what's available to you. Every 2-3 weeks on trees I know are susceptible.

I'm having a hard time believing you've got a powdery mildew problem on an acer palmatum in your climate. Regardless, try spraying 2 tablespoons of 3% hydrogen peroxide in a quart of water. This should take care of it and is quite environmentally friendly (peroxide releases reactive oxygen and becomes just water).

There is a product called Green Cure that is potassium bicarbonate. One of the best products there is for powdery mildew that is non toxic. Works better than hydrogen peroxide in my experience. You can buy it on eBay or Amazon.

Thanks guys, I'll look into your recommendations. This isn't a palmatum, its some kind of native maple. Powdery mildew is a big problem here, especially maples and some veggies.

Check into the drainage of the property itself. Serious, it took me over a year to correct it here. Also air circulation... lack of both combined has a lot of fungal and bacterial problems in the brew.

It's not just my house, it all over town. We have damp cool springs, makes the stuff go crazy.
Doesn't help that the rental across the street has a huge red leaf Norway maple that is covered in fungus every year and the leaves never get cleaned up.
If I could find a systemic fungicide, I would sneak over and treat it.

Daconil is good and can be applied at bud break and then for a couple of months later. the active ingredient in Daconil is something like Chlorfi...? Look it up. Daconil comes in a number of brands and can be found at home depot/lowes. Just check the fungicides on the shelf labels for the active ingredient. The spraying regimen is on the label.

Maybe you can prevent if you spray a couple of times early in the season?
