Maybe grafting near the base and cut all the straight cylindrical trunk? IDK how well yew grafts though

Im not sure the long straight part makes it difficult for a design but i have something in mind similar to this:

It will require a change in planting angle and lots of deadwood carving at the base.
Also the guy were i have been on some workshops told me that he is skilled and confident enough to get some movement in the long trunk so i might just repot and take it over there sometime for some heavy trunkspliting bending lessons

Worst case scenario. come on over in Germany for a bend-n-beer afternoon

decided to repot this one been in this big box long enough if i want to accept @leatherback invitation i have to be able to move it around 😂

main reason for repot was to get rid of the dead roots since parts have died off....

i reused the soil after sifting it and changed the planting angle and cleared off parts of the dead bark funny there is still life in the part on the left that died recently...

pics or it didnt happen...

this side is completely dead

With the amount of deadwood of the loving trunk IDK if will be easy to bend, even if you get to move separating the living vein from the deadwood it wil still have no taper

yes its rock hard wood even living parts are hard to bend ... first it has to survive this repot and recover then we will see what way to go...

i spotted an angle that might be my favorite front then with some carving allong the long boring part between the foliage and the last bend in the trunk can make it maybe interesting enough at least i am enjoying myself with this project even if it will never be a show worthy piece

I love where you're going with it! I studied the pics before seeing your most recent comment, and I agree 100%

sad to anounce that this one died on me last year :(
ive had someone water my plants during a two week holliday and he forgot to water this one and my large hibiscus and he forgot it 4 days in a row during a heat wave.
it slowly died... i still got the trunk maybe i will keep it for a tanuki project ....

rats!

Are you interested in a replacement? I have a slightly bigger, multitrunk one that I have been considering letting go because of space ..

you have my attention! do you have any pictures from this one on here somewhere?
I can take a shot when I get home.

It is this tree, but a little fuller. I did complete root ceanout over 2023/2024 winter so now in pur inorganic substrate. Never got around to really developing it.
